The journey of the Alternative Children Care Alliance (ACCA) began in 2011 when the Child Survival Centre hosted the first East African Orphan Summit. This pivotal event brought together stakeholders who shared a common vision of addressing the plight of orphans and vulnerable children in the region. The summit sparked the formation of a network dedicated to promoting alternative family care as a sustainable solution for children in need.
Following the success of the summit, the network grew in scope and ambition. In 2013, the Child Survival Centre organized the Child Adoption Conference, which further solidified the commitment to child protection and family-based care. These efforts culminated in the formal registration of ACCA in October 2017 as a non-profit organization under Kenyan law.
Today, ACCA stands as a vibrant consortium of over 20 Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) united by a shared mission to make Kenya a safe and nurturing environment for all children. Our work is guided by international treaties, the Constitution of Kenya 2010, and the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). We advocate for policies and practices that prioritize the best interests of children, ensuring they grow up in loving and supportive families.

ACCA focuses on the following thematic areas: Orphan Sunday, East African Orphan Summit, Awareness Creation and Sensitization, Training of Trainers and Capacity Building
ACCA membership is open to subscription from institutions, organisations, Individuals, Churches, Legal and like-minded organisations with an interest in Children Protection and more specifically Alternative Family Care for Children.
ACCA will work towards building networks with churches, faith based organisations and any likeminded institutions and Organizations in ensuring the fulfilment of our vision.
ACCA is privileged to have within our Alliance a range of expertise from Adoption Agencies, professionals, Legal experts on matters Children Rights, Children Rights Advocates, Children Officers , Faith leaders as well as Organizational strategic experts. With all these, ACCA will offer both technical and Spiritual expertise to all our partners? depending on their needs.
ACCA adopted EMATSULI SUNRISE ACADEMY in the year 2020
When the scourge went down, they slowly resumed school but the numbers were not encouraging and that is what struck us in a school of the less fortunate community that is struggling to make ends meet and at the same time take children to school. Our efforts with that of Calvary Global Kids have yielded fruits and right now we can see 74 students in school at any given time. Some still skip due to lack of food and other domestic challenges which we are addressing at their levels.
